From Concept to Creation

Welcome to our devlog , 'From Concept to Creation,' where we share updates on the development of our exciting new game! In this entry, we're thrilled to announce that we are putting the finishing touches on our technical and design documents. This marks a significant milestone that sets the stage for the next phase of our journey: diving into the development of the game prototype.

Recreating the Game's Story:

One very important task we accomplished last week was the recreation of the story behind our game. We finally came up with an engaging background story that explains why the characters are trapped in the maze and give players possitive motivation to help and free the characters. The story is the following:

"The Hunger Maze is a cooperative game designed for two players. The story behind the game takes place in a high-rise building where a professor conducts a psychological experiment on people, specifically focusing on their eating behaviors. For the experiment, he has chosen two volunteers, two friends named Erick and Patrick, due to their completely different body structures and eating habits. The professor observes how they navigate and balance their food choices while cooperating with each other. However, as the professor becomes more and more obsessed with his experiment, he poses a threat to the participants. Realizing they need to escape from him, the friends must find a way to overcome the challenges and risks he presents, using their intelligence to outwit the professor and ensure their own safety. Everything has spiraled out of control, and it's all about survival itself."

In previous week we completed the following tasks:

Ondrej: Hello, to provide a summary of my work from the past week: I have completed the Core Experience section in the Design document and have prepared an initial draft of our Development plan and I assigned tasks for the next week. I also tried to write a sample play scenario based on Tereza's player personas.

João:  Hello! In the design document I did "game references" where we talk about the games that gave us inspiration for our project. I started working on the tech document by looking at the technological requirements and the main features of our project.

Tereza: Hi, last week I worked on the Design Document. To begin, I focused on creating the first 'tweet' that describes the game. However, to do so, I needed to recreate the story and make it more detailed. After considering various ideas from each team member, we settled on my concept of an insane professor conducting psychological experiment. I then rewrote the game description based on the new story and proceeded with my tasks, such as crafting the 'tweet' and defining player personas, along with their corresponding value propositions.

The tasks for the next week:

Ondrej will cooperate with Tereza to finish the Design Document, and start to explore Unity as a potentional platform where to develop the game.

João will finish the Tech document, particularly map the features to the experience goals, and start to explore Unity for game developing as well.

Tereza will finish together with Ondrej the Design Document by defining conceptual models for the core gameplay elements and the core gameplay loop(s) and game modes. Then she will look for assets for the game (background, food).
